On April 16, 2018, I had the pleasure of donating a large collage piece to Vardesenteret, at the UNN Hospital in Tromsø. The center offers services for cancer patients and their loved ones. I’ve spent countless hours there and this was one way for me to say thank you for the wonderful job they do. Yngve Olsen took many lovely photos and this is one of my favorites. It was a beautiful day.
The collage (110 cm x 4.5 meters) consists of 9 separate sections. For me personally, it symbolizes what the Vardesenter is and does. Its visitors have a dark, unwanted presence in their lives – Cancer. But Vardesenter offers a place for a diverse group of people to gather – young and old, men and women – to be met, seen, encouraged, and know that they’re not alone. Vardesenter shines light and life into that heavy darkness.
